The tourist committee, chaired by Drew Echols, inserted the call for legal online sports betting as a last-minute addition to its 2025 recommendations. The suggestion intends to leverage the growing impact of US online sportsbooks as a tool to draw visitors and fund infrastructure.

According to the report, revenue from mobile sports wagering might help bring in significant events such as shows and sporting competitors. Those occasions, in turn, could drive visitor spending throughout the state.

The committee indicated the example of a neighboring state, North Carolina. There, lawmakers supposedly allocate around 30 percent of sports-betting profits to draw major events. That model impressed some Georgia magnate and legislators as an effective plan to increase tourist and create revenue.

Experts and pro-gaming advocates argue that with correct oversight and a tax framework, controlled mobile wagering might flourish. Opponents, however, continue raising concerns over social expenses and addiction.
